this famous newsreel footage shows the moment when the german airship the hindenburg crashed at lakehurst new jersey in the united states in 1937. note that in this case hydrogen is used for buoyancy not as a fuel. it should be emphasised that hydrogen cells in cars etc are a very safe form of fuel. (note that youtube is blocked at school - sorry)
interestingly there were 37 deaths, 35 of which were from jumping or falling from the burning aircraft, 2 were from burns from the skin of the airship.
